Thirty-Five Days: July 6 to August 10, 2019

Table of Contents

TLDR

The 35 days between Jeffrey Epstein's arrest on July 6, 2019 and his death on August 10, 2019 constitute the most financially active period per day in the entire corpus. During this window, $14.66 million flowed through Indyke's Interest on Lawyer Account (IOLA), the last will was signed on August 8, $2 million went to a previously unknown "Representation Trust," and $200,000 replenished a criminal defense retainer — all documented in the TD Bank Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

The Arrest

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on July 6, 2019 at Teterboro Airport by the FBI-NYPD Crimes Against Children Task Force. He was charged under Southern District of New York (SDNY) Case 19-cr-490 with sex trafficking and conspiracy. He was held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, denied bail on July 18 after the court found he posed a flight risk and danger to the community (United States v. Epstein, No. 19-cr-490, S.D.N.Y. 2019).

The arrest did not stop the money.

The IOLA

Darren Indyke's Interest on Lawyer Account (IOLA) — a type of attorney trust account where client funds are held temporarily, with the accrued interest directed to legal aid programs — at TD Bank received three wire transfers from Southern Trust Company via Charles Schwab totaling $14.66 million. Two wires — $8 million and $4.66 million — came from Charles Schwab account 41224708, held in the name of Southern Trust Company Inc., USVI. A third, earlier wire of $2 million came from Deutsche Bank account 35269691, Jeffrey Epstein's personal account care of HBRK Associates (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

An IOLA is supposed to hold client funds in trust. It is a professional ethics mechanism: money belonging to clients, held temporarily by their attorney, with interest directed to legal aid programs. Processing $14.66 million through an IOLA is not what the instrument was designed for. The scale alone raises questions about whether these funds constituted legitimate client trust deposits or something else.

August 8, 2019

Two days before his death, three things happened.

First, Epstein signed his last will and testament — a 10-page document establishing the 1953 Trust with Darren Indyke and Richard Kahn as executors. The will bequeathed $3 million to Simona Petreike, whose name connects to the Lithuanian investigation through wire transfers to "Fors projektai" and "Baleto Teatras" (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

Second, the IOLA wired $2 million to "Representation Trust" in New York with the memo "legal fees." Representation Trust is a previously unknown entity that does not appear in corporate registry searches conducted during external corroboration. The $2 million wire on the same day the will was signed is the single largest same-day legal expenditure in the corpus (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

Third, the IOLA wired $200,000 to Black Srebnick Kornspan & Stumpf with the memo "je retainer replenishment." The abbreviation "je" — Jeffrey Epstein — appears explicitly in a wire memo funding criminal defense. This is the corpus documenting its own subject's legal defense in real time (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

The Pre-Arrest Cash

Richard Kahn's cash withdrawals in the months preceding arrest add another dimension to the financial picture. On May 7, 2019, Kahn withdrew $50,000 in cash — a transaction large enough to trigger a Currency Transaction Report (CTR, a mandatory bank filing for cash transactions of $10,000 or more). Earlier, he withdrew $8,000 on April 22 and $4,400 on February 1, for a total of $62,400 in cash over four months (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

The $50,000 CTR withdrawal occurred two months before the arrest. Cash, unlike wire transfers, leaves no destination trail. It cannot be traced to a recipient or purpose once it leaves the bank. Whether these withdrawals were pre-arrest preparation or routine personal spending is a question the corpus raises but cannot answer.

The Deutsche Bank to TD Bank Migration

The financial activity of this period must be understood against the backdrop of the Deutsche Bank to TD Bank migration. Deutsche Bank terminated the Epstein relationship by letter on December 21, 2018 (NYDFS, 2020). In the months that followed, multiple wire transfers carried the memo "to close DB account" as funds were systematically moved from Deutsche Bank to TD Bank (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

The migration was not reactive. Birch Tree Br LLC was incorporated in Florida on August 14, 2018 and its TD Bank account opened August 23, 2018 — four months before the Deutsche Bank termination letter. HBRK Associates opened its TD account on April 18, 2019. The infrastructure to receive the migrating funds was built before the termination was formalized (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

By the time of the July 6 arrest, the financial architecture had been reconfigured. The IOLA at TD Bank was the new nerve center. The $14.66 million that flowed through it did not come from Deutsche Bank directly — it came from Southern Trust Company via Charles Schwab, a routing that added a layer of distance between the original source and the destination.

The Most Active Period

The wire transfer corpus contains 224 transactions totaling $24.1 million spread across approximately 15 years of records. The 35-day period from July 6 to August 10, 2019 contains the IOLA's $14.66 million, the $2 million Representation Trust wire, and the $200,000 retainer — roughly $16.86 million, or 70% of the entire corpus total, compressed into 5 weeks (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026).

On a per-day basis, no other period comes close. The arrest did not freeze the financial network. It accelerated it.
