Lithuania: The Thinnest Financial Thread

Table of Contents

TLDR

Lithuanian prosecutors opened a pretrial investigation on February 3, 2026, based on wire transfers to "Fors projektai" (EUR 75,000) and "Baleto Teatras" ($28,000) -- totaling approximately $106,000 in confirmed financial links (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026a). This is the thinnest financial thread connecting Epstein to any of the four investigating countries, yet the investigation opened first, driven by a $3 million will bequest and a cultural recruitment angle distinct from other countries' approaches.

The Smallest Numbers, the Fastest Response

Lithuania was the first of the four investigating countries to open a formal investigation, launching its pretrial inquiry on February 3, 2026 -- fifteen days before France opened its dual probes, and sixteen days before the UK's first arrest. This speed is notable given that Lithuania's financial exposure is by far the smallest: approximately $106,000 in confirmed wire transfers, compared to France's $1.575 million (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026a).

The investigation is organized by the Panevezys Regional Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the Panevezys County Police Department. The focus is human trafficking related to the Epstein network, with a cultural and arts recruitment angle that distinguishes it from the financial investigations in France and the UK.

Two Wires, Two Entities

The documented financial connections are spare. "Fors projektai," a company headed by Valdas Petreikis, received EUR 75,000 from Epstein's USVI foundation in 2017. "Baleto Teatras" (Ballet Theatre), also connected to Petreikis, received $28,000 in 2018. Combined, the confirmed transfers total approximately $106,000 (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026a).

These are not large sums in the context of the Epstein financial network, where Southern Financial LLC processed $606.9 million in inflows and a single Interest on Lawyer Account (a special bank account lawyers use to hold client funds) received $14.66 million (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026b). But the Lithuanian transfers stand out for their specificity: they went to named entities with identifiable principals, in a country where the cultural sector -- ballet, modeling, arts -- has been named in external reporting as a recruitment vector.

LRT, the Lithuanian national broadcaster, reported dozens of additional bank transfers from Epstein to Lithuanian entities since 2008 (LRT, 2026). These additional transfers have not been independently verified through the corpus wire transfer table, and the entity database has not yet been systematically searched for Lithuanian connections. The $106,000 figure represents the floor of confirmed exposure, not the ceiling.

The $3 Million Bequest

The connection that drew the most public attention was not a wire transfer but a will provision. Epstein's last will and testament -- signed August 8, 2019, two days before his death -- bequeathed $3 million to Simona Petreike (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026c). Petreike is described in Lithuanian media as a cultural organizer who introduced Valdas Petreikis to Epstein. Her family has publicly stated that the bequest was refused.

The will bequest is legally distinct from the wire transfers. A bequest is a stated intention, not a completed transaction -- and a refused bequest has no financial effect. But the $3 million figure, combined with the business entity transfers, suggests a relationship that extended well beyond a casual acquaintance. You do not leave $3 million to someone you met once.

The Cultural Recruitment Angle

Lithuania's investigation stands apart from the other three countries in its focus on cultural recruitment. While France investigates auction houses and political financial structures, and the UK pursues trafficking through aviation infrastructure, Lithuania is examining how the arts and cultural sector may have served as a recruitment mechanism (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026a).

Multiple Lithuanian models and arts figures were named in released correspondence, according to LRT reporting (LRT, 2026). The ballet theater connection -- a $28,000 wire to Baleto Teatras -- fits a pattern documented in other jurisdictions where cultural institutions provided social access and, potentially, recruitment opportunities.

This angle is difficult to investigate through financial forensics alone. Wire transfers to a ballet theater could represent legitimate patronage or something else entirely. The distinction depends on context that financial records alone cannot provide: who was recruited, how introductions were made, and what happened after the cultural events concluded.

What the Corpus Can and Cannot Show

The corpus documents two wire transfers and a will bequest. It does not contain LRT's reporting on additional transfers since 2008. The wire transfer table has 224 parsed transactions totaling $24.1 million (PAPER TRAIL Project, 2026b), and a targeted search for Lithuanian entities has not been completed -- meaning additional connections may exist in the data but have not yet been surfaced.

The entity database contains 2.38 million extracted entities, but "Fors projektai" and "Baleto Teatras" were identified through external reporting rather than corpus analysis. This is a case where journalism (T3 evidence) led and the corpus (T2 evidence) confirmed a subset of the claims. Whether the corpus contains additional Lithuanian connections that have not yet been identified is an open question.

Lithuania's financial thread is the thinnest of the four investigating countries. But thin threads can still lead somewhere. The Panevezys prosecutors are pulling this one, and only their investigation will reveal whether it connects to something larger or ends where the wire records stop.
